I think with "true multitouch" you can rotate Google Maps. Some apps and games require it, like Ocarina for example (

You must have not understood my sarcasm. Simply put, if the device is capable we should use it to it's full potential and explore the possibilities of the device. Isn't that why we are here in the first place rooting and creating ROMs/Mods?

I obviously don't, but someone with the knowledge to build kernels could try it and find out. That is why I posted about it in a thread dedicated to building kernels.

We ARE talking about the kernel... and like I said. There's a SEARCH button for the thread.

Anyway, I think if someone is going to build a kernel they should try to see if they can build one with "true multi-touch" to see if our screens support it.

I would say it would help (and be fun).

It's possible that the phone's screen may support it while the kernel and software doesn't.

There are some apps and games that require or would benefit from it (see above post where I link to an app that requires 4 finger touch). Another example would be virtual piano... you couldn't play many chords with just two touches.

This is totally out of my league but if someone knows enough to try, maybe we can get 3 or more touch points to be read. If it's hardware related then I don't know if we have a screen that is capable, but worth a shot.
I can look into it, but it may be hardware dependent. I wish I had a nice list of exactly what hardware is in this thing, and datasheets to go with it. It would tell a lot about the hardware capabilities.
So far, all I've been able to do is verify that the kernel will compile, and extract the BOOT.IMG. I made the CIFS.KO module, and added it to my phone, but apparently it wouldn't load.
For those who are wondering what the hell CIFS is, think Windows network shares. With a working CIFS module and an app like CIFS Manager, you can share files from your Windows box to your phone easily.

EDIT: Okay, it appears the M886 uses a Cypress TTSP chip for multitouch. This device supports UP TO 10 touch points, depending on which actual chip you use.

    From the kernel config..
    Code:
TMA300 is a multi-touch screen which can report upto 10
touches at a time. TMG200 supports 2 touches.
So, it may be hardware limited.

Thanks, I'm glad to see your interested. It would be awesome if we could enable more touches.

Wow, I was just Googling trying to find that out. All I found was replacement LCDs and Digitizers.
