How To: Change Boot/Shutdown Animations (ICS)

Here's a little something I put together for everyone’s enjoyment. After you replace this file you will be able to change both your start up and shutdown animations

    1. Root your phone using this method.

    2. Download a root capable file manager from the Play Store.
Root Explorer or ES File manager (free) are two good choices.

    3. Download and run
    this file

    .
It will extract a modified cust.img file to the same folder you ran the file from.

    4. Copy the modified cust.img into your phones internel memory or sd card using a usb cable.

    5. After turning Usb storage off and saving a copy of the original cust.img use your file manager of move the new cust.img file into
    /.cust_backup/image

    6. Reboot your phone.

    7. Now you have two options.

    Automatic & Easy
Install a program such as "Rom Tool Box" to install animations for you.

    Manual & Customizable
Copy your choice of bootanimation.zip and/or shutdownanimation.zip into
    /system/media

    That's it! Reboot and enjoy

If you're using ROM toolbox Pro or free, use file manager in it. I used all other file explorers and none of them worked good with root privileges. Changed animation before restarting, and it booted up with my custom selected animation. Works Great, I use ROM Toolbox Pro. Sent from EP121 Windows 8.

Doing it the manual way, would be putting the bootanimation.zip in - /system/media

Either way works, I tested both before posting this. Most of the phones I've personally owned have defaulted to /system/media. I choose to post one directory in order to keep things as simple as possible.

This worked, thanks! Has anyone had any luck getting live logcat or live dmesg to work?

I tried following these instructions to enable logcat but the live logcat app still doesn't display the logcat boot animation:

    To turn on LOGCAT

The boot animations installed by Rom Toolbox work just fine.
