You just need the core. Find the platform-tools directory. That is where adb is.

You can PM me if you need more help. I need something from you too, just a couple of commands in Linux, when you get to that point.

I have not. It looks as though some of my prior attempts to root the device corrupted the system partition. I think I need to let fsck create a lost+found directory, but just want to double check something before I do that. That is what I need help from someone for. Just to verify that there actually is a lost+found on the 12th partition.

There are details of what I am seeing in the other thread, I think.

As for getting it to download mode, the easiest way is to plug the phone in, while it is off, let the charge screen come up all the way. Then press volume up and down. I sometimes have trouble doing all three buttons at once.

Thanks. When you are browsing the directories using Linux, it is the partition that has the bin directory that I am concerned about. In the top level of that partition, I think there should be a directory called "lost+found". If you can verify that for me, I would be grateful. I am going to be working all night tomorrow, and am going to be way to busy to check email/forum. But I'd be glad to help you out during the day tomorrow, if you run into problems.

All I can say is I'm rooting for the guy that can get this done and post a step by step for the rest of us...

I'm missing some of my favorite apps but not enough to risk bricking my only phone...

Anyone have any idea how long it usually takes from someone getting it done this way to a one click solution being put out?
