When I have problems, sometimes toggling airplane mode helps.

so all night it stayed pegged at four bars and they were green with data off. around ten this morning they went to white and began to drop out. just now they are back to green and all four. of course, cricket said there is nothing wrong with my connection.

I don't know what the signal meters turning white means, but I do know that data and voice still work when they are white. Usually they are white when I first wake my phone up after it has been in standby for a while.

As for what airplane mode does, it disables all radio communication. The way I tell when I need to do that is go into Battery Usage in settings, look at the Cell Standby section. If Time Without Signal is pretty high, then resetting the radio (using airplane mode) usually gets it out of that funky state. For a little while, I rebooted my phone when I was losing battery fast, but this is much faster, and works just as well (assuming that is the problem).

cricket will never say that any form of connectivity issue is because of their equipment. and yes there are many markets in which cricket IS working on their towers (according to a tower tech friend of mine Cricket is installing LTE on their tower setups).

even if the connection is white, you should still be getting a strong enough connection for basic browsing, usually after a little usage it will get a stronger (green) connection

When your connected to Wifi or 3G you'll see the 3G or Wifi antenna. When it turns green it means that your logged in/connected to your Google account. As in things like GMail, Talk, Sync, ect.

However, it seems to me that it works much faster when it's green, but as far as I read, green means Google.

3G has been dropping a lot for me too, nearly impossible to send a pic sometimes....
    Hope this helps!

I didn't like Lookout much, Avast! was proven the better of all Android antivirus, but it's good for extra protection.
