Depends on which iPhone he goes with. If he gets the iPhone 4S, that has a faster dual-core processor than the Mercury.

The Mercury is getting ICS, be patient guys. It was official that Huawei posted that they were going to release a Demo ICS between the next few months. Then devs can use that to make nice new toys for the flashing hungry users.

But he can't overclock. All iPhones are underclocked. Way under

I know that without the KERNEL source, modding/hacking/tweaking this device, will go No Where.

Why is everyone so excited about ICS anyway?
Yes, it's a great improvement over Gingerbread.
Yes, it's vastly superior to iOS.
But with poor support by Huawei, not enough active development, and mediocre hardware - even IF Ice Cream Sangwish came to the Mercury, I wouldn't want it.

I'd be happy enough with an optimized AOSP Gingerbread ROM.

Without AOSP, any ICS ROM is just a kang though, right?

    AH, okay.
I'm no Android™ newb, been rooting since the HTC Dream and Sapphire.

However, I am totally new to cricKet, as I left T-Mobile a few months ago.
I just rooted and CWMed my Merc just yesterday, after months of hesitation.

I don't mean to come across as a jerk, as I've seen your name mentioned many times in these forums oriax123 So my thanks to you, for developing for this device.
    ------ ----- ----- ----- -----
When I read several posts around here that people are asking about ICS, I did not find any announcement by Hauwei. Then I found this:
    https://www.facebook.com/huaweidevic...00687683387906
"The Huawei Mercury M866, Huawei Honor U8860-51 and Huawei G300 will receive the ICS demo upgrade in Q3"

So I'm definitely looking forward to that!

For those asking why ics. You need to go to developer.Google.com. do some reading as to how ics helps older devices. Everything from memory tweaks to hardware rendering at the ui and core level. Search for bennefits of Render Script in ice cream sandwich. You do not have to have cutting edge software to get better performance and battery life.
Don't take my word on it. Google can be your friend

    waittt!!!

Instead of getting an iphone with smaller screen size and prob slower and no customization aspects!! Jus root ur merc stock rom or revokster ... then overclock it or cpu setup ... max out The min and max at 1400 each ... buy a larger batterie
At amazon for less than 30 $.... than jus buy ilauncher for 2$ in Google play... I assure u this is the best I phone launcher out der and gets better every update! !!! Fyi I tested using speed test For networking in the applestore using their wifi (my merc vs iphone 4s) and my merc In Three speed test wasss wayyyyy faster than their own iphone 4s.... clocking my ping at less than 20 ms , upload at 11165kbps and download at 23556 kbps.... I surely thought twice before getting a frkn iphone ..... and that's all u jus cud save ur self 400 bucks! !!!

Well i would have to say the phone is a piece. i bought one and not even two months later the batt went dead and it would not come back on even the cricket people couldn't get it working so i had to pay the $150.00 for a replacement (that on top of the 300.00 i paid to begin with) and my second one lasted about 3 months and it started acting all possessed or something keeps freezing up, and has a force close message pop up . so i tried resetting it back to factory setting and it wont go back it will erase all messages and and call logs and any thing including pics i have saved after the 19th of July anything before the 19th is still there and when i text someone it goes to the wrong person. i have to pull the batt out and restart it and of course any info on my phone will be gone all the way back to the 19th of July ... so i would have to say it sucks

I did my research and not once did i see any of the same problems that I'm having until i typed a specific problem for the phone in the search bar then i seen the other people with the same problems .SO.... I'm sorry but the phone is a $450.00 piece of crap

The Mercury runs just fine on gingerbread. Go buy a cheap tablet if you want to flash a bunch of different roms
