    Mercury CarrierIQ

Just an FYI, I discovered that the Mercury does have CarrierIQ installed on it. For those that remember the past news, this has been called a rootkit, and a serious one too. The security researcher that found it, claims that it will allow the CarrierIQ company to monitor all calls, texts and keystrokes.

    I will investigate more later.

I think Sprint is removing Carrier IQ off of their phones. Hopefully Cricket will do the same, if the Mercury does indeed have Carrier IQ on it.

I am for carrier IQ for some things. First, if they take the info such as location and cell strength I have no problem, Second, If they get a report on why the phone is failing and uses the reports to send to the carrier so it can be fixed - no problem. Keep my personal info out of it and don't look to see what apps i'm running. Use it for the simple matter of improving the network and the phones. Carrier IQ did originally start with a good idea from what I have read, but someone had to keep addind on more stuff till it became a bad idea.

I couldn't find a way, other than buying the Test Logging App from the marketplace. I do have SuperManager, and it appears to have the ability to remove it, but I don't know if it will do it correctly.

I agree with one article I read on the matter. Why hide it? If it is there for network quality reasons, and it's already going to be running, just tell your users. The fact that it has the potential to send information like messages sent/received, what apps and how often they're used, and possibly even keystrokes, really bugs me.

I found CIQ Process Killer (on market) that will kill the iqmsd process that from my understanding if its not running Carrier IQ doesn't work. There is also a paid version Auto CIQ Killer..
