I hate the different coverage maps for different types of phones. It's like the MVNO is split even within it's own company. I mean CDMA Verizon CDMA Sprint and GSM. Stupid IMO. Nice try piecing together an MVNO.

You're right! It is confusing. I've read of people trying to read serial numbers on phones at Wal-Mart to try to figure out if it works on AT&T or T-Mobile. Some Wal-Marts sell both sides of the service, but people need to find the one that works for them.

It's getting a little confusing with Cricket with the PAYGo. I know somebody on Facebook was moving and they wanted to keep Cricket, but their phone would be on partner coverage all of the time. It sounds a little dumb to tell them to go to Best Buy to get another Cricket phone in order to keep their service working.

Hopefully these things will get fixed in time.

The tethering should work just fine, it just isn't supported. If you add the tethering plan, you can then use a third-party application to get the tethering to work.

They dont need to go to bb to get another phone. They just need to switch to paygo service. They shpuld go to a corp store BEFORE they move and migrate to paygo in their new area. They can get them a number virtually anywhere. No need to buy a new phone.

I rooted my Merc and tethering worked. Then I found out the built in tethering works also before the root. Are you sure you've exhausted you options?

Can they call customer service to get it switched after they move?

I wonder if Cricket would just shut off their service or if they'd give them a call explaining what needs to be done. My guess is they would just shut off their service. That would just confuse the customer when Cricket is sold at Best Buy down the street.

I just think Cricket needs to better explain this. For those who have access to the forum, it's not a problem, but those that don't can have some trouble understanding the way the service works.

here's a good thread on the LG optimus.

(Net10) LG Optimus Q & Optimus Net Official Topic

optimus q's 3.2mp camera, 5 hour talk time. . . what competition? mercury blows this phone away. and with cricket you get features like wifi hot-spot capability, an honest fair usage policy not hidden in legal jargon, more global features than you can shake a stick at. .

I think this thread is about a different phone, which is closer to the Mercury in specifications.

You're right about those Cricket features that others don't offer though. For somebody that wants to switch they'd need to give them up.
