    Startup / Shutdown Sound

I hate the startup and shutdown sound. Been looking around for the file so that I can zero it out, but can't seem to find it. Anybody got any ideas?

    /system/media

The sound file itself could be embedded in bootanimation.zip

There is a bootanimation (23kb) and a bootanimationex (also 23kb). Neither show a mime type. Both are under /system/bin. Don't have a "file" binary (nor is there file in busybox).

Checked all sound files under /system/media and didn't find it.

files located in /system/bin are for executing the bootanimation. /system/media/bootanimation.zip is what you're interested in.

Then there is no boot sound, it's all in your head. j/k That's where it is on every phone I've played with.

It looks like I found the ogg files.

    /cust/cricket/us/media/audio/animationsounds/

    bootSound.ogg
    shutSound.ogg

/cust is mounted ro. First couple of attempts to remount as rw unsuccessful.

It's not there in every phone, one that is totally different is the LG Optimus S.

I too share in your hate for the boot sounds lol...I looked at the .ogg files on mine and they are actually set to rw, but I wasn't able to rename. /cust is rwx-rx-rx, and both .ogg files are rw-r-r. Any thoughts as to why it can't be renamed?

The /cust fs is actually the cust.img file mounted via loopback. It is mounted as ro, so other permissions showing rw are overridden.

I have not done anything with cust.img, but the plan (when I get bored enough), is to copy it to my PC (running Linux), make a backup of it, then mount the file (mount -o loop,rw -t ext3 [path/]cust.img mountpoint) then zero out the files (>filename).

Then umount cust.img, put the phone in download mode, and replace the cust.img with the newly modified one.

I think that would do it. May, of course, be unexpected problems, so don't attempt if you are not at least familiar with command line interface (CLI).
