    Tethering workarounds

My old Zio would allow tethering no problem, but now it seems after a few hundred kilobits, you might get sent to a cricket webpage that chastises you for daring to tether without paying $10 a month and tells you to get data back, you must reboot your phone. Nice huh.

So what about workarounds? How are they determining that you are indeed tethering anyway?

Only thing I've found is by connecting to my VPN (HMA) and then using something like "Wireless Tether for Root users" I can go about 10mb until it peters out...

Barnacle or Open Garden, as previously recommended by Salas. I installed PdaNet (in the Market) but haven't tested it yet since I have a Ethernet line and WiFi at home.

For me, I used wireless tether earlier today and it sent me to a Cricket Website as mentioned both times...
then again, I have all kinds of weird issues...so par for the course.

And yet, talking about it openly probably isn't the best idea since I'm cure cricKet watches these forums.

I, for one, pay the $10 monthly fee and the plan is still a bargain. What other carrier lets you pay that cheap for tethering?

Well, I look at it a little differently. I pay for my 1gb of "unlimited" data to use as I see fit, the $10 is just a money grab and absolutely nothing more. I'm surprised anyone would actually support the idea outside of your typical corporate stooge.

I would agree with paying the 10.00 for tethering . IF They did not count the data usage against your DATA . or even increase the data for the extra money you are paying. If you pay them the extra 10.00 its money your paying them for something already included in your account. the data you are allowed to use. IT Should not matter how or where you use it as long as you are within there acceptable use policy (excluding them charging you to use your data . THAT YOU PAY For tethered)

hope this makes sense if they charge me to tether i might as well go to t-mobile 65.00 a month 4g and 4gb data. and you can Buy more reasonable. I WILL NOT PAY TWICE FOR THE DATA.

While not forbidden, I don't think it's a bright idea to openly talk about beating the network's imposed limitations.

I'm not the moral police or anything. Just sayin'.

Tethering has nothing to do with crickets network limitations. It has nothing to do with Nor is it stealing or cheating cricket. However paying Cricket extra money for DATA you already pay for with your month to month pre payment contract . The Contract gives you X AMOUNT of Data. Rather you use this data on your phone your Notebook or even if you used the data on your toilet. IT Still is the same data. If you were trying to Break there Throttling service , steal extra bandwidth or services you ARE NOT PAYING For. NOW that is another whole story. If you disagree with the MASSES About Tethering and Phone hacking in general
(Hacking and development that does NOT HARM Crickets NETWORK) THEN I Suggest you leave the Android forum communites . ITS All about improving the users experience with there technology .Nothing that i have seen being done on here hurts anyone Nore Crickets network.

Cricket charging extra for tethering . Now this is a Them stealing money as the xxx amount of data has already been paid for. If you can not understand this. Then keep tossing your money away and STOP TELLING OTHERS THEY ARE in the wrong .

Sorry for such a long post but im very passionate about this ISSUE. DATA IS DATA ITS NOT INCREASED NO matter where you use it.

    GOOD LUCK

    THIS ^^

U pay for there service yes. but part of there service is DATA! Throttled at 1g. so if u use it all on ur laptop, then so be it! If u waste all are data on there friends laptop then so be it! The data is being pay for then y pay for it again???

Also teather is part of the android not cricket! If ur phone can do it and they KNOW it can do it. Then y not use what u got!

This place is abt cricket not androids and cricket has already threatened to shut this forum down for things like this... that's the point this is forbidden to discuss on this site, deal with it
