I was looking at my friends stock non rooted merc. I proceeded to take out the battery and when I hit power, it would boot. Say huawei and reboot. Over and over and over. He said it fixes it self

That is exactly what happened to my second Mercury, except the MUVE music logo would load and play that tune and then reboot lol. The guy at the Cricket store showed his manager and they immediately said replace it, it never fixed itself. The day before that happened it stopped reading or writing to the SD card and the internal memory if I remember, it was weird, I couldn't load pictures or anything.

3.is there a link for the stock rom that came with merc, so that way i could reflash and unroot and use my warranty, if need be.

if it helps im running revokster without muve update.
Do you use the weather clock widget? Removing that from my homepage seemed to eliminate the problem.

As an added measure, I also did a fix perms from recovery. If you do one or the other, maybe we can narrow it down some.

Mine only reboots when I install or update an app. I don't have the weather widget and fixed perm. in CWM. And still get reboots when installing or updating apps. So, I took all the Widgets off the 3 screens and now it doesn't reboot. I use AdwEx.. Try running without Widgets on any screen and see what happens..

I guess it probably isn't the widgets themselves but the way they are handled. The only reason I picked the weather widget to remove was that was the only one I didn't mind removing. Really need the Google Voice widget and some kind of agenda widget.

One thing that I noticed after those reboots, was that the SD card had to "recover" data. Took a while for icons to show up (for apps that were moved to SD card) and opening up gallery took a really long time to show all pics. Probably just because the SD card was not cleanly umounted. I did, however, disable the SD card speed boost (still got a reboot after doing that).

Well. It did it again. Installed a new app and instant reboot. Don't know what it is. Thinking about fresh flash and see what crops up then..

What is your default install location, freespace, anything else you can think of.

If you can duplicate the prob at will, how about capturing a log?

Fyi, this is different than the random reboots I and others have been having. May be related, but mine have /had no obvious cause/effect.

How do I capture a log file? Or is an error log automatically created?
My default install location is set to let the system decide. Freespace is 629meg internal 5gig sd 2.03 internal sd.

Not really sure. Logging normally happens automatically. However, the reboot seems to wipe it out. On a Linux system, logging is usually to /var/log/messages. Probably the best way to see the log, is to do a "tail -f /path/to/messages" from Ubuntu 10.04.

Just thinking off the top of my head.

    Ah!....just found this:

    use logcat..

    from desktop do

    adb logcat

    from g1 using terminal

    logcat from root

Tried the logcat in terminal and is says that dev/log/main doesn't exist. Root explorer the dev/log directory doesn't even exist. Is there a logging app that I can use to make an error log before it reboots?

Yes. Still no logs. I tried a couple log viewing apps from the market and they wouldn't find "any" log files. Is there an app that will log "everything" even if the system is rebooting?

    xda-developers - View Single Post - [Q] Huawei IDEOS X3 (U8510) root need help.

Apparently, our kernel has logging disabled. That link provides instructions to enable. Trying it myself now.

Ok. I tried that. I got into the menu and found the logging setting. Turned it on set to verbose and still no log file made and the log setting wont stick after reboot.

The other thing that wont work is Jrummy's busybox. Says I need a stable connection wont d/l on wifi either. Had to use the other installer from the market.
