$45 plan tethering to my laptop

I have the $45 plan which allows me to have unlimited web at slow 3G speeds. I still wanted to try tethering it to my laptop.

I did some google searching on how to tether it to my phone and came across this article
How to Unlock Tethering on a Cricket Phone | eHow.com

I've got it to work and the speeds are 3G which is a good thing. I'm just concerned at what the link says on the bottom.

Internet tethering isn't free from Cricket Wireless. You will be charged for the time you spend using your Cricket phone as an Internet modem according to your service contract for mobile web use.
Am I being charged extra for tethering my phone to my laptop?

No, you won't be charged. Please note: Tethering is against Cricket's TOS. So, it's done at your own risk.

So if I used it occasionally when my internet is down I'll be ok?

Customer service told me today that Cricket will add tethering to the $50 and $60 plans for an additional $10 per month, starting Aug 10, 2015.
