The Android Operating System - Basics

What a noob like myself needs is a laymans or simplified technical description of how the Android system works. Followed up with what makes it Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, etc... Something that will also help explain where to look when certain types of problems persist. I understand windows pretty good but not linux. Any website/book recommendations or tutorials out there??

How Android *works* is quite a can of worms to open. I couldn't even tell you where to begin honestly...

I can give you a start though regarding the OS versions...

A good analogy would be to consider the different Android versions just like you would Windows versions. Windows 95 was the beginning and what would lay the framework for future versions of Windows, I'd equivalate it to Froyo (Android 2.2). Windows 98, or Gingerbread (Android 2.3) in this case would be a somewhat significant *upgrade* to what was previously laid out in the older version. Then comes Windows 7, (I know I skipped Windows ME, but it's garbage) which I would say is Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) in this case. It is a huge upgrade in terms of visual aesthetics as well as functionality. I guess you could put JellyBean (Android 4.1) on par with Windows 7 Service Pack 2 as being minor updates to *iron out all the kinks and smooth things out* if you will.

In short, they're just different version numbers, Google names their OS codenames after desserts in alphabetical order. Ex. Froyo, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, JellyBean, etc.

Your best bet regarding specific issues would be to Google that particular problem and research as much as necessary to see if it's a solvable issue. Hope that whets your appetite.

    some info

hello your best bet would be to go to google and or go to wikipedia or lookup Android OS it will tell you everything about the development it's failures and successes it changes all that type of stuff.

when you get all that you want to know from that
you can also go to a page called rootz wiki it will tell you everything about the development and technological progression of rooting various phones on the OS

by the way below I've copied and pasted link for you to look at so have to copy and paste
