Cricket Wireless to End CDMA Service in March 2015

To prevent Cricket Wireless customers from being left out in the dark, I will make some videos to reach those who might not frequent the forum. For the last couple of weeks I have been settling in a new home in a new state. There actually isn't even Cricket service here. I didn't have Internet for a while, but I'll try to pay attention to this transition as I've already noticed some misinformation floating around. Remember though... Always hope for the best and expect the worst.

If you guys plan to move on to another carrier, please let me know which one. I am going to try to transition this site to focus on others carriers if need be. This means I'll probably be trying to purchase new phones in the near future and putting out more information like the old days.

Thanks everyone for coming along on this ride with me. It's been interesting.

The news today from AT&T is that they lowered their lowest rate plans to $40 per month. This requires full payment of new devices, as opposed to the Next12 and Next 18. The plan also includes a $60 plan with 2GB data and unlimited voice/text. I expected throttled Cricket use, and certainly the "DeathStar Network" will do whatever they can to force extra revenue from users.

I appreciate your site and help Chris. I expect to stay with Cricket for the time being, waiting to see what they will offer for devices.

I expect the iPhone 4 in my drawer dropped to a value of about $75 this week as well.

    This is uttermost BS.
Their going to get rid of all of the contracts they had with cdma coverage, which was mostly Sprint mixed with Verizon in some spots.
Now it appears that everyone will just run on AT&T's nonsense network.
Does anyone remember the problems that they had with the iphone? Their network couldn't keep up. Now imagine dumping all of the cricket users with their new smartphones that they had to buy on their network. I smell disaster in the making.

    Maybe I'm misinformed about this...?

    Angry It's a trap!

At&t is going to ruin everything. The "new cricket" already sounds like a ploy.

att's network has had some major improvements since the launch of iphones 5 years ago. and it is only going to get better (unless you live in an under-served area like most of usa)

Honestly AT&T is much stronger than Cricket was and in turn Sprint.

I still have AT&T and Verizon. I go back and forth between both of them. Both have pretty good coverage. Honestly need both to cover almost 100 percent of the nation.

This video was shot a couple days after the original. I addressed some of the comments I saw in various locations. Hopefully it warms up in my new home, and I'm able to get down in the basement and work on the site some more.

I think I will be showing how to flash Cricket devices to other carriers. It's only fair that Cricket / AT&T allows their older CDMA devices to be flashed to other carriers unless they take them back at a good price for upgrades.

I have moved. This announcement is nothing new for me. I went through the same thing with Alltel. This is simple for AT&T. They want the bandwidth for the data.

I have moved to T-Mobile. Here in Denver, they have great 4gLTE speeds (appx 20 megs down) and I am spending about 10 less a month for 3 phones. The buyin on the phones was painful but I am happy thus far with the service.

Glad they work well with you in Denver. At my new place of business we went on a trip to a road course a couple of weeks ago. 17 hours in a vehicle and 1 party out of 4 had Tmobile. He was the only one complaining about service. Others had Verizon and ATT.

I think as far as coverage it might be:

    Tie AT&T / Verizon
    Tmobile
    Sprint

The latest is AT&T will do away with CDMA and completely switch over to GSM sometime between now and March of 2015. So we will be forced to buy New phones and have a whole lot of real nice Flashed Phones Useless? In which I just got a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 flashed to Cricket, and that Phone sells for $579.99 on the AIO Wireless site, so I assume it will run about the same on the New Cricket as well, and of course they will offer no trade in value for Flashed phones!!!!

And the S4 with contract is $199.99 at AT&T. MyCricket has the phone at $599.99 before discount, and $429.99 after. T-Mobile obfuscated the purchase of devices and monthly charges. The result at T-Mobile is $70.00 per month and $92.00 per month after taxes and insurance. I believe AT&T lowered monthly service to $60 a few weeks back.

There will be changes, and there will probably be a rate increase at some point. We don't know yet exactly what AT&T will do until they tell us. The fact that CDMA is leaving is established, and the hint that flashed phones will not work has been hinted. You can leave now for another carrier, or ride it out and hope that it will be equal or better. I paid $113.00 on my other service (US Cellular with 1 Android and 1 basic phone) and roamed for over 2 years. I am content with the $46 for one device and will even be happy if I pay near $60 for one device. as long as I have service. In 12 months I will be ready for a phone, and hope that there are bargains available as I only have an Acclaim 2.

Thanks Chris again for a great resource with the site.
