Trouble activating my phones off eBay.

    Hello,
I have purchased 2 phones off ebay. First time I tried to activate it and it gave me an error. I took it to the store to activate the phone and the agent told me that its probably not activating because the phone is from out of state (I am in Los Angeles CA). I asked the seller on ebay and he told me that was weird, he never had the issue before and he would refund the problem phone and pay for shipping. He also said it shouldn't matter about the location of the phone and that he sells to people all around the country with no issues.

I attempted phone #2 (which I still have in my possession), and got the same error. Haven't been to the store to activate yet but I am guessing the same thing will happen. This is the exact error message I get:
    We cannot activate your device
We're sorry, but the device you are attempting to activate is not eligible for activation on mycricket.com at this time.
For assistance please call us at 1-800-CRICKET or visit your nearest full service
    Cricket store location

    .

I actually contacted the seller before hand and asked him about the out of state issue and said he hasn't heard of it and he sells about 20 phones a day to people all around the country, who have no issues activating.

Any reason I can't get my used phones off ebay working?

It was a Huawei and this new one is an LG. Both of these are androids.. have the cricket logo drawn on the phone. Both had a sim card slot but no sim card in there. When I turn it on there is cricket software on it.

    My location: Los Angeles CA

Cricket phones do not have sim slots.

Ok. I also checked that Cricket has no androids for sale in my neighborhood, only wap phones. If I take this to San Diego for example, do you think they can activate it there?

If they have the cricket logo you should be good. it could be that the phone still is active in the system with cricket.

How can I figure it out?
When I call cricket I can't speak to an operator, except the sales department who tell me they can't help me. Can't get any tech support on the phone because I am technically not a subscriber. People at the store just tell me their computer says I can't activate it.

You might be in a PAYGo only market, which means you need to use a Cricket phone sold at MyCricket.com.

You are in a paygo market, as Avenue mentioned. You can activate it in San Diego.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?

If I activate it in San Diego will it still work fine in LA?

What is the difference between a PayGo market and others?

    Thanks for your help.

Activate it in SD and you can use it in LA...but if you permanently in LA they might migrate your plan.

@CaptainKirks: No, only phones that are in Cricket's database as paygo phones, will be allowed to be activated on PayGo.

The only issue is that my address is still in Los Angeles.. argh, does this mean I can't activate it?

You need to provide Sd address. Numbers and account types are based on your zip code.
