    Wrong Gmail & Market

Had this guy message me earlier and I can't seem to help him all that well. Chris isn't here or I would ask him. Plus it's wise to post up in the forum. This is what was said.

    • i bought a htc from a guy and he left his gmail account on the phone... after i got it flashed i went to get on market and it keeps asking for his password... i need to get it off so i can link my gmail to market so i can get apps

So pretty much, he got this flashed evo and the guy left his gmail on there and without the guys password he can't access the market. Is there anyway he can add his own gmail on there without having to do a factory reset and lose his flash?
*Please PM me ONLY if you have posted in the forum, and I have not replied. Thank you.*

The account on there is the 'main' account and cannot be deleted without a factory reset. He could disable sync, etc. for that 'main' account, and add his on as a 'secondary' as a wonky workaround, but I don't recommend it.

MDN, MIN, and PRL (all the CDMA programming) doesn't get touched on factory reset, neither would a custom mms.apk as long as it is on the /system partition. The only things that could possibly be affected would be proxy access (if on $45 plan) and / or the APN's depending on how the 'flash' is implemented.

I would backup the APN's just in case and factory reset it, It's best to start fresh in my opinion.

Here is one method to remove the main Google account from an Android phone without doing a factory reset. This works well because many people get used phones while on Cricket. You can prevent losing apps and settings while still removing the main Google account from a phone.

Basically this was done on a rooted phone. We used the program called Root Explorer and navigated to /system/framework. Make sure that is mounted r/w and not r/o (read write vs read only). Rename framework-res.apk > framework-res.apk.bak. You might get an error after this (force close). Just go ahead and force close it. Immediately rename it back to framework-res.apk. Reboot and you're done. Enter your new main Google account.

This is just a method that I accidentally stumbled on while changing the framework for a Nook.

If the device were to be reset or powered off for any reason while framework-res.apk is renamed, it would no longer boot up. Simply put, a typo could render the device useless. Just a FYI...

I would not recommend messing with anything on the /system partition if unexperienced, especially just to remove the main account.

If that method is used, just be 100% sure that framework-res.apk is named correctly before you reboot and you should be fine.

Yes this is true. I should have said WARNING WARNING WARNING.

I've only done it a few times and have been very careful.
