In April, Cricket Wireless kicked off our 2009 premiere sponsorship of Rebuilding Together with National Rebuilding Day! For those of you who may not be familiar with the organization, Rebuilding Together is*the leading national nonprofit group helping low-income homeowners by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate their homes.

On National Rebuilding Day in April, volunteers and employees from Cricket participated in 19 projects across the country! The teams helped individuals and families by providing badly needed repairs and upgrades to make their homes safer, more energy efficient and accessible.

In keeping the spirit of Rebuilding Together alive throughout the*whole*year, Cricket is currently working on a second round of projects that began in September and will be taking place through November.

Over the past two weeks teams from Austin, Baltimore and Chicago have already kicked things off by participating in projects helping out with things like:

  • Roof repairs
  • Painting
  • Weather stripping and insulation
  • Updating landscape
  • Installation of upgraded smoke detectors
Cricket*is also*donating a free phone and one year of free service to each individual or family helped by*these projects.

The team in Baltimore worked hard to provide some much needed repairs for Mr. and Mrs. Miller (pictured above), an elderly couple who have faced several health challenges*over the past few*years. The repairs*to their home*will help them live more safely and independently.

Former Chicago Bears linebacker, Otis Wilson (pictured above), joined the team of Cricket volunteers in Chicago to help out with the heavy lifting at the Brian Piccolo Specialty School.

Throughout the next month, Cricket teams across the country will be taking part in more projects with Rebuilding Together in:

  • Denver
  • Philadelphia
  • San Diego
  • Kansas City
  • Houston
  • San Antonio
  • Washington, D.C.
By the end of the year, Cricket will have completed 43 projects across 37 cities!

Stay tuned as we continue to post new pictures and info from the projects as they*happen!*
