Restoring Older Software Versions (Tried to reset and caused boot loop)

Well I learned my lesson pretty quickly when it comes to saving the files necessary for restoring older software versions.

I wanted to document my experiences in this thread in case anyone had the same problem.

Situation: The iPhone I'm selling to sprigmo1 is on 4.2.6. This is how I received the device so it looks like it's impossible to upgrade to the latest software with an untethered jailbreak (5.0.1).

I jailbroke the device, and I think this is the phone that I made a Youtube video out of. I had only done a few others things, but I never reset it. It still contained the previous owners information.

Naturally I went to do a complete reset. After a while it got stuck on the jailbreak logo. The circle of lines stopped rotating. I let it try a few times and after a while it would just restart on it's own. The next thing I tried to do was re jailbreak it. No dice there.

What Seemed to Work: Thankfully I used iFaith to create a copy of the SHSH blobs.

sn0wbreeze was 2.9.3 was used to create a custom IPSW.

I searched the Internet for the stock IPSW for 4.2.6. The one that I downloaded using the links inside the program didn't seem to pass verification (2nd step... passed initial).

All I did was choose the IPSW I downloaded (iPhone3,3_4.2.6_8E200_Restore.ipsw), chose iFaith mode, browsed for my saved SHSH blobs, and then went to build IPSW.

I have been playing with different versions of iTunes and TinyUmbrella the last couple of weeks to try and get various iPhones to restore. I'm going to note what I used. This was partially me taking precautions and partially me not knowing any better.

    • I used iReb to get the phone booted in a Pwned DFU state
    • iTunes version 10.4.1.10
    • Ran TinyUmbrella (TSS server)
    • Hit shift and restore
    • Chose my custom IPSW (includes Cydia!)

The device restored and is jailbroken. Crisis averted.

Mine is still restarting. I tried snowbreeze. Itunes fails when restoring the file created by breeze.
The phone gets stuck in DFU, at which point I have to restore the regular version from itunes (restore button).
I figured restarting was not related to searching problem because it restarts even when in Airplane mode. So, CDMA settings have nothing to do with it...Not sure if jailbreak actually broke it...I tried restoring and restoring and restoring...nothing!
If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?

We're definitely going to have to look at yours. I was able to update one that had an unknown MEID error.

Had a similar problem on an iPhone 4 and 3gs. The "JustBoot" option worked, I think redsn0w?..

Sent from my M886 using Tapatalk
Edit: 3gs was not jailbroken if I remember right.
