FAQ Flashing a Phone to Cricket
This will be a work in progress because I know there will be many questions on the topic.
Can you flash an Android phone to Cricket and have talk, text, MMS, and internet?
Yes. It has to be a CDMA phone. This usually means that it is going to come from Sprint or Verizon.
My favorites (listed in order are) the Sprint HTC Evo, Motorola Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, and Droid. Some others that I have done are the Samsung Fascinate, Samsung Epic, Samsung Moment, Droid Eris, and HTC Hero.
What are the flashing capabilities for other phones?
I believe Blackberry and Android phones have become mastered more than any others. There are other phones here and there that can get more than just basic talk and text. Some can get data and MMS also.
Will it work everywhere?
Most CDMA phones from Sprint and Verizon are dual band because that's their primary network type (CDMA 800/900). Cricket also uses AWS in select markets (1700/2100) transmit. To see if you're in a triband area, go to
Nationwide Coverage | Cricket Wireless
and enter your information. If there are horizontal lines, you will need a Cricket phone to operate in that area.

* UPDATE: Because of roaming partnerships and perhaps depending on the area and PRL (preferred roaming list) you use, you may be able to get service still. We've heard good reports of flashed phones working in Washington DC and Chicago.
How do you flash an Android phone to Cricket?
Well there are a number of ways.
- Find one of our tutorials OR use Google to find one on the Internet.
- Check Craigslist for people in your area that flash. Another was is visiting a Cricket Authorized Dealer. Many of them flash phones or know people that do. It is possible that someone from a Cricket Corporate store may know as well, but they do not flash phones.
- You can contact me. We offer a variety of services.
Can I buy a phone that has already been flashed to Cricket?
Sure you can, however chances are data and MMS will not work even if you manage to get *228 to program it with your number after putting the phone on your account. People like to sell phones as flashed to Cricket because most will pay more. Buyers feel like they'll be skipping out on paying someone to flash it for them. You will still need to do additional programming at a minimum to get everything to work. I prefer to start from stock and go through the whole flashing process. I learned how to flash on my own and most people can do it also.

Flashed phones will work in many areas. The safe bet is to stick to non tri band areas, but you will find that it is confirmed that they will work in some tri band areas as well.
You are in a tri-band area so I can't verify at this moment if it'll work. We'd try to help you as much as possible to get it working.
For a cheaper phone to flash that's still way better than the Ascend, try picking up a Droid. I'd search eBay and Craigslist or bad esn phones. These are ones that were thought to be lost (insurance claims) or people didn't pay their account. They usually go for cheaper.

Verizon Droid. Droid is actually a trademark of Lucas Arts that was borrowed by Verizon and Motorola. They are the only true Droids. Everything else is Android.

Hero and Eris are cheapest and still perform okay. Only on 2.1 unless you upgrade ROMs. Evo is the best IMO. I got a Samsung Fascinated the other day for $150.

Ask around and see if people have had luck in your area. There are many tri-band areas where dual band phones actually do work.

I have a droid x. Verizon sent me an outrageous bill. I've never paid them, so I believe I have a bad esn? I'm in Chicago and went to Cricket and got $55 plan and a Sanyo Zio (hate it). I factory reset. Upgraded to Gingerbread and followed the MyCricketForum "Flashing the Droid X with Gingerbread to Cricket" except in video # 2 when he mode reset i get a popup (phone mode must be "offline") and dx has no phone int text etc
Any ideas
